Section 4: Players & Officials
4.1 Competitors by Discipline
- Halfpipe / Slopestyle / Big Air: Individual runs in heats. The standard World Cup and major-event final has 10–12 men and 6–12 women (ICR 3501.2).
- Snowboard Cross: Knockout heats of 4 or 6 riders (ICR 5502.1). Qualification can be timed runs, seeding runs, qualification heat rounds, 3-heats qualification or round robin (ICR 5501).
- PGS: Head-to-head elimination bracket after a two-run qualification. The final runs from the 1/8-finals through the 1/4-finals and 1/2-finals to the small and big finals (ICR 6504.1, 6504.3).
4.2 Judging Panels
- Halfpipe / Slopestyle / Big Air: At World Cups there are at least 6 scoring judges plus a Head Judge (ICR 3311.7.2), and 6–9 scoring judges plus a Head Judge at the Olympics and World Championships (ICR 3311.7.1). Each judge scores 0–100 without decimals (ICR 3403). With 6 or more scoring judges the high and low scores are discarded and the rest count (ICR 3403.2).
- SBX and PGS: No judges — results are decided by finish order (SBX) or by racing times (PGS).
4.3 Officials
The competition is run by a Jury that includes an FIS Technical Delegate (TD). A Chief of Competition manages event logistics. Gate or section judges (SBX, PGS), start referees and video officials support the Jury. At the OWG, WSC, WC, YOG and WJC, video judging/control is used for cross competitions (ICR 5408) and is mandatory for snowboard alpine competitions (ICR 6406).
