Community Guidelines
OpenSourceSports is a community-driven platform. These guidelines help keep it useful, accurate, and welcoming.
Last revised:
Submitting a Sport
- Be original. Submit sports you created or that aren't already on the platform. Check the browse page first.
- Write real rules. Submissions need actual gameplay rules, not just a name and description. Include setup, gameplay, scoring, and how to win.
- Be accurate. If referencing official rules, cite the governing body and version. Don't misrepresent rules.
- Keep it appropriate. No offensive, discriminatory, or harmful content. Sports should be safe for all participants.
- One submission per sport. Don't submit duplicates or minor variations of existing sports as separate entries.
Rule Change Proposals
- Be specific. Propose concrete changes, not vague suggestions. Explain what should change and why.
- Choose the right category. Use Rule Change for gameplay rules, Scoring Change for point systems, Equipment Change for gear, Safety Change for player safety.
- Back it up. Include reasoning. “This rule should change because...” is more useful than “Change this rule.”
- Vote honestly. Upvote proposals you genuinely support. Don't create accounts to inflate votes.
Moderation
- Submissions publish immediately as Unverified. New custom sports appear in search and browse right away so you can share them and rally supporters. Moderators can flag, hide, or remove content after the fact if it violates these guidelines.
- Flagged content. If your sport is flagged, it may be temporarily hidden while we review it. You can still edit it from your My Sports dashboard.
- Rejected content. Submissions that violate these guidelines may be taken down. If you think this was a mistake, contact us.
- Appeals. Reach out via the feedback button in the bottom-right corner to appeal a moderation decision.
Becoming Official
Custom sports can graduate to official status through community support:
- Unverified — Just submitted. Share your sport and gather supporters.
- Community Verified — 50+ supporters and 3+ rule proposals. Your sport is gaining traction.
- Endorsed — A recognized organization endorses your sport's rules.
- Officially Regulated — An organization claims governance. Your sport is now official.
General Conduct
- Be respectful. Disagreements about rules are fine. Personal attacks are not.
- No spam. Don't submit sports, proposals, or votes with the sole purpose of gaming the system.
- Report issues. Use the feedback button to report bugs, content issues, or violations.
