Foundational milestone for FIA Formula One. The 1950 British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom on 13 May 1950 was the first world championship race in F1 history. Most consequential modern engine-formula reform in F1. A major rule change in 2014 saw the 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engines replaced by 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid power units (V6 turbo with MGU-K and MGU-H electric components). Most significant aerodynamic-formula reform since the V6-hybrid era began. In 2022, the F1 governing body announced a major rule and car-design change intended to promote closer racing through the use of ground effects, new aerodynamics, larger wheels with low-profile tyres, and redesigned nose and wing regulations. The 2022 reform marked the return of ground-effect aerodynamics to F1 (last seen in the late 1970s/early 1980s), wheel-size increase from 13" to 18", standardization of front-wing dimensions, and simplified bargeboard regions.
